Everest Basecamp Trek
Overview
Most people picture Everest Base Camp as a destination. It is really the last page of a longer story: days of walking up a valley where the trail is the main street, and where villages have been hosting climbers since the 1950s.
You land at Lukla (2,860 m), cross the Dudh Koshi on swaying suspension bridges, and climb to Namche Bazaar, the horseshoe-shaped trading town where yak caravans still share the lanes with bakeries and gear shops. Above Namche the valley opens up. You pass Tengboche monastery with Ama Dablam rising behind it, the stone-walled potato fields of Dingboche, and the memorial cairns at Thukla. Then the rubble and blue ice of the Khumbu Glacier lead you to Base Camp.
Here is something few itineraries mention: you cannot see Everest’s summit from Base Camp. That view comes from Kala Patthar (5,545 m), the dark ridge above Gorak Shep, where the whole summit pyramid stands in front of you. Our route takes you to both.
The distance is manageable for any fit walker. The altitude is what deserves respect. That is why we build acclimatization days into the trek at Namche and Dingboche, and why your guide has the authority to slow the pace whenever the mountain calls for it. Our guides hold NMA licences, and every guide and porter is paid a fair wage and insured, because the people who carry your trek deserve the same care you do.
I left out the number of days and the price since those depend on your itinerary. Before publishing, check that the acclimatization stops and the Kala Patthar climb match what you actually run.
